Ariva is committed to delivering the broadest range of sustainable paper and packaging solutions—from business papers and fine printing papers to publishing papers and packaging products. We partner with leading mills around the world who share our support for sustainability. And we've created a comprehensive Environmental Report Card for all products, specifying which environmental criteria they meet—from FSC® certified to Green-e to Green Seal. We even have papers manufactured with wind power.

Count on Ariva to help you achieve your objectives for environmentally responsible business practices that benefit us all.

Certified Commitment

In 2003, we were the first paper merchant in Canada to achieve Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) Chain of Custody (CoC) Certification.

We have since added Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®) Certification and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).

Sustainable Forestry Certified Products

Ariva offers an expanding array of products with chain of custody (CoC) certification by the world's three leading independent sustainable forestry standards organizations. This assures environmental responsibility, from forest to you.

Why Certification Matters

Ariva is proud to meet the demanding standards to achieve certification by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®), the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes (PEFC).

Our certifications offer you greater assurance about the origin of raw materials used in the certified products we sell. Our ability to track the wood sources used by our CoC suppliers helps ensure that every certified product you purchase is sourced from sustainable, responsibly managed forests. And that benefits everyone.

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)

The FSC® is a non-profit, international, independent membership organization that develops standards and certifies that wood harvesting is done within their environmentally conscious standards from responsibly managed forests. Ariva offers one of the most extensive lines of FSC®-certified papers.

Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®)

The Sustainable Forestry Initiative® is a comprehensive, independent certification program that works with environmental, social and industry partners to improve forest practices in North America and fiber sourcing worldwide.

Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes (PEFC)

The PEFC is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental, global umbrella organization promoting forest sustainability, supported by 149 governments worldwide. Wood and paper products bearing the PEFC seal promote sustainable forestry management practices throughout the world.

Virgin vs. Recycled

Ariva is committed to balancing our customers' supply needs with the need to minimize impact on our natural resources.

While much emphasis in the marketplace has been placed on using recycled materials, fibre can only be recycled between 5 and 7 times, making input of virgin fibre into the paper stream essential. That's why we provide products that include both virgin fibre from responsibly managed sources, as well as recycled content. Virgin fibre harvested using recognized third-party-certified sustainable forestry practices is as environmentally sound as the use of recycled fibre.

Green Practices

Throughout our organization, Ariva continuously seeks out innovative ways to "go green,"

from company-wide recycling to energy-saving lights. We are continuously striving to enhance our sustainability to improve the balance among the economic, environmental and social implications of our operations.

Responsible Parent

Our parent company, Domtar, was the first forest products company in North America to achieve FSC® certification from forest to customer.

The company has played an active role in numerous environmental initiatives, including over a decade of collaboration with Environmental Non-Governmental Organizations (ENGOs). In addition, Domtar has demonstrated its commitment to reducing greenhouse gases and uses nearly 75% renewable fuels to manufacture its products.
